Violinist and violist Dr. Joseph Kauffman enjoys a vibrant international performing and teaching career. He has performed in prestigious concert halls throughout the world including Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, Mariinsky Theatre, Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Kimmel Center, Carnegie Hall, and The Lincoln Center. He performs regularly with The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Opera Philadelphia, Philadelphia Ballet, the Academy of Vocal Arts Opera Orchestra, Princeton Symphony Orchestra, Reading Symphony Orchestra, iPalpiti Artists International, the Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, and he serves as concertmaster of the Wayne Oratorio Society, Germantown Oratorio Choir, and The Haverford-Bryn Mawr Chorale.

 

As a chamber musician, Kauffman has performed live on the radio in Philadelphia (WRTI and WMMR) and Los Angeles (KUSC), and he has collaborated with Branford Marsalis, Mikhail Kopelman, and Lambert Orkis, and other notable musicians. Kauffman is also a member of Oscuro Quintet, the first tango music ensemble in Philadelphia.

 

A revered teacher, Kauffman is an Artist in Residence and adjunct professor of violin, viola, and chamber music at Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance. He serves as the Orchestra Artistic Director and Upper Strings Specialist at Cornerstone Christian Academy in Southwest Philadelphia. He is also the founder and Artistic Director of the Music Transforms concert series in Wayne, Pennsylvania, which benefits the Cornerstone Christian Academy Orchestra.

 

 

Kauffman studied with Yayoi Numazawa, James Lyon, Max Zorin, and Eduard Schmieder, and he holds performance degrees from Penn State University (BM) and Temple University (MM and DMA). Kauffman lives in Philadelphia with his wife, cellist Elena Kauffman.
